Starting in 2016 the Air Force switched to the newest version of Enlisted Performance Reports known as Forced Distribution. An Airman eligible for promotion in the ranks of SrA-TSgt will receive either a Promote Now, Must Promote, Promote, Not Ready Now, or a Do Not Promote. The top two ratings are limited depending on the number of eligibles which gives an Airman a competitive advantage when it comes time to test for promotion. All Airman who does not receive a Promote Now or Must Promote will fall into the Promote category unless specifically given a Not Ready Now or Do Not Promote.
Points toward promotion are:
Promote Now = 250
Must Promote = 220
Promote = 200
Not Ready Now = 150
Do Not Promote = 50
A maximum of three EPRs are used to determine the overall score and a weight is assigned to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year rating. It goes without saying, a Promote Now and a Must Promote will give an Airman a clear advantage when it comes to promotion.
In traditional fashion, WAPSCalc provides a historical look at promotion ratings with the Forced Distribution Calculator. Over the years, the stats will show how each AFSC looks with each promotion recommendation.
